Common Questions

Selling silver, answered

Do you buy sterling silver flatware and tea sets?

Yes. Roma Jewelry buys sterling flatware — full sets, partial sets and odd pieces — plus tea and coffee services, trays, bowls, candlesticks and other holloware. Bring what you have; we sort sterling from silver-plate at the counter.

How do I know if my silver is sterling or plated?

Look for marks that say sterling, 925, or a lion passant — those mean solid silver. Silver-plate and EPNS are not. If you are unsure, bring it in. We test at the counter and tell you honestly which is which.

Do you buy .999 silver bars and rounds?

Yes. We buy .999 fine silver bars, rounds and bullion, as well as pre-1965 US silver coinage. Weight and fineness are confirmed in front of you before any offer.

Does tarnish lower what you will pay?

No. Tarnish is surface oxidation and does not change the silver content. Do not polish pieces before bringing them in — cleaning can damage hallmarks and, for coins, almost always lowers value.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in Sunday or Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Free parking out front. Closed Monday and Saturday. For a larger estate set or a box of flatware, a quick call to (516) 795-8843 helps us prepare.
